Okay dudes, you know I'm short for time. So, it's come to just this kind of poo.. 3-seconds and I'm done.

Post your most kick-ass harmonics, be they pinch or natural. Give your signal chain, and tell me who you think is DA MAN for harmonics and why...

Wow me with your METAL!!!!

Here's mine:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/1/jammermattmusic.htm

Signal Chain: Les Paul Classic loaded with JB/Jazz (JB used) through TS9DX Tube Screamer through Line6 Flextone IIXL. Line6 Channel was "Brit Hi Gain" and B=9, M=8, T=7, gain about 6. A tad of delay.

Da Man: Vivan Campbell (Holy Diver) really intruduced me to the pinch harmonic, so it's all his fault. However, for DA MAN, I gotta go with the Lynchmaster. That series of pinch harmonic about 4 notes into "In My Dreams" solo pretty much sums up 80's Hair Metal guitar... don't ya think?

Check out Gettysburg. I play artificial harmonics in a totally weird way, and have coined this method, which I call Harp Harmonics.

Rhythm guitar signal chain: Wayne Rock Legend -- > Fulltone Full-Drive 2 --> Rivera K100 1/2 stack.
Lead guitar signal chain: ESP M1 Tiger or Kamikaze 4 or Jem 7D --> Roland VG 88

As for pinch harmonic influences, I say: First, ya gotta give it up for Alex Lifeson, he was doing screaming harmonics long before anyone else. Just check out the 1st Rush album, 1974!! Also, I agree with Lynch. Add to that list: Zakk Wylde.

Check out the P.H. in the middle of the gtr solo, then back da fv<k up!
Also in the main intro/interlude riff there is that P.H. with the 'just breakin' up' sound, & that's hard ta do.

signal chain > me > my gtr > my amp > your face

.

I heard that harp harmonic... very cool, I'll have to try to cop that one from ya. Also, you have a great pinch right in the opening riff... I love it.

This version of Gettysburg sounds much clearer than the previous one. I noticed a small change in the rhythm, and it's a bit chunkier which I like. Vox is better, and more guitars which is also nice... oh ... and cannons!! Looking forward to the CD release.

Yes, Zakk's harmonics are definitely signature for him, and nobody does it like that. You can tell him straight away without even looking at the liner notes.

Heard 'em! Yeah, that just breaking up is a toughie.. you gotta be right in the sweet spot when you don't have all that drive happening. If you don't hit it right, it comes out more like a sick chirp.

As for the pinch in the solo... just goes to show you that the ol' pinch fits well in even mellower settings... nice! (Glad I backed the F up :D )

Oh, and nice tune as well.

Don't just listen to it for the harmonics - that is a first-class song. Superb, 'nuff said!

Nope, all of my artificial harmonics are done as harp harmonics, Matt. I can't do pinch harmonics the traditional way!

Craig, You weren't BS-ing. That was the shiznit for sure. Very nice legato run about 15 seconds in. Sounded very Lynch-like, and now I'm bowing down!! That's what I want to sound like when I grow up :D

I call that "When Georgie met Eddie"... kick a$$!

Oh, that avatar kicks a$$ as well.

So, even the harmonics in the opening riff are TO-Harp-Harms? I gotta see this in person. I'll add this to the growing list of: "Stuff TO needs to show me in NYC."

Re: Post your Most Kick-A$$ Harmonics!!!!

It's moments like these that I miss Lee. That was a guy who LOVED pinch harmonics :blackeye:

Re: Post your Most Kick-A$$ Harmonics!!!!

Forgot to pick: Who da man.

Even though I was doin' them before I ever heard of him, & I haven't listened to anything he's done in about 15 years, Zakk's p.h. on tunes like Breakin' the Rules & No More Tears, made me sh!t my pants when I was a teenager.
The way he'd just hang on those ones on the low E stg made me cream my own panties.

Akira Takasaki's name doesn't immediately come to mind when I think of amazing pinch harmonics, but, he DOES use them a lot in his playing ...
