Posting here because, well, you would know

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I want to run my Bass DI into a 4x10 cab - standard non-powered bass cab.
8 Ohms

What would you use to power this? That can take a line from a DI of some sort?

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

The big question what is the application? Home practice or gigging? What kind of DI does it have EQ?

Posting here because, well, you would know

If the DI puts out a line level signal you should be able to drive a power amp. If it’s mic level maybe not.

I once showed up at a gig only to realize my amp head wasn’t in my car. But we had a Fender power amp, so I ran my old MXR Limiter into it and cranked the level all the way up. That was enough to drive the power amp.

So if the DI doesn’t have a line level out you might be able to use another pedal to boost it.

Man - this is getting hard! This is for gigging.

It's an Amp SCR-DI. It has two balanced outs (and a 1/8 headphones). There is an unaffected out for straight instrument through - no SCR effect whatsoever (for tuner, etc)

I know I can get a powered speaker, but I'd like a real Bass cab/cabs. I also know I can get a micro head with 350 watts or so, but I have a DI/Preamp!!!

I want to use the SCR as my preamp, and then I can run it into a cab, direct, or both. I can put a bass cab up there and then power it.

There are a ton of little heads. Maybe I sell the SCR to fund one. They all seem to have a DI.

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

Bass > SCR > Line out > power amp > Cab (with the thru or the xlr out going to FOH depending what you want). Any power amp will take a line level signal. You could use anything from a little 44 magnum pedal power amp to a full on 1000 watt crown, or use the return on an amps FX loop (assuming you can set for line level).

There's lots of used Peavey and Hartke amps that are dirt cheap. If I were you I would get one of those and just run it into the power amp section.

As an example for what I do, I run into a sansamp which then I run into the front of my GK 400RB, and send the signal from my sansamp to FOH, but I could just as easily run the sansamp into the FX loop return and bypass the GK's pre.

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

You won't have any issue going balanced into unbal AMp input -the negative phase will ground out and the positive will hit the amp at around 600 mV which is inside the headroom of most any modern amp.

I know this unit has more than you need, but bang for the buck ($150 to 250)-this is the best bass amp on the market -Yorkville 400 -you can just DI straight into the FX return to use the amp stage only -OR use the -6 input for all the features plus headroom or up 0 db input for a "hot" sound

If you are dead set on a no frills amp only -buy a solid state Peavey, Yamaha, or Crown amp in a used music store for next to nothing -like 100.00

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

I use this for recording bass straight into my interface.
Although I’ve never tried it, aupossedly it can go straight into a PA. I’m not sure how it would work going into a non powered cab.
But you could run straight to the pa and use a monitor out to have some stage sound...

It’s got a cheap ass plastic housing so it probably isn’t very roadworthy. But it was cheap. Iirc, $30 +/-

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

Dig the already-mentioned ideas. Heres some more

This amp is cheap and has the correct output jacks for a cab:

https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-30...ocphy=9031174&hvtargid=pla-521128485576&psc=1

If you want a smaller/lighter power amp, I’d look into micro bass heads with an effects loop or a quilter (latter may not have enough power for bass tho).

Behringer has some ridiculously high wattage/low price bass heads of course.

Just plug it in to the PA

Do you need the speaker for a monitor?

Ok I just looked that up. It has a line level out. So just pick up a power amp and a cab and you are good to go.

Thanks Chadd.

Honestly - for the price that Yorkville may have a lot going for it...almost grabbed a Yorkville 4x10

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

I think I'd just get a cheap class-D bass head like the Ampeg Portaflex 350.

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

Wouldn’t a PowerStage amp do the trick using a line out signal from the SCR into a cab?

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

The point is I have a couple of hundred bucks wrapped up in my tone generator. I just want a frickin' 350 watts or so for less than that!!!

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

Search around your area for a used PF-500 head. I got mine for $200 on Craigslist. Keep the DI for home use, or not. The PF-500 has a DI out for PA hookup. Get a good used 4x10 and you're ready to go.

- OR -

Forget all that and run your DI box straight to the PA and pump some bass through the stage monitors. No money spent.

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

A Crown XLi 800 is only $270 with 600 watts when bridged.

Re: Posting here because, well, you would know

Yeah - just getting the power unit seems reasonable too. But I don't need all that juice.

I just need to swap DI for a class D head.
