Pot configuration for 3-Band EQ - Basslines

About 5 years ago, I assembled a bass guitar with parts from Warmoth.com and I used a Basslines MM style pickup. Then about 6 months ago, I replaced the stock pickups and electronics on a low end Rogue 6 string bass with ASB2-6 pickups and STC-3 active electronics.

Both of these sets came with pre-wired pots for the volume plus 3-band EQ. My issue was that in both sets, the bass and treble are wired on a concentric pot. Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this? In my experience, bass guitars with 2-band EQ are far less common than 3-band EQ, and I've never seen concentric pots as stock controls on any bass.

In both cases when I've installed Seymour Duncan pickups, I've had difficulty locating replacement pots that have the correct specs (10k push/pull for volume and 100k for tone) because they are not nearly as common as the 25k and 500k found in many electric guitars. Does anyone know the reason why SD doesn't wire the bass and treble controls on separate pots for easy replacement on bass guitars that are already wired this way? I never received a response from Seymour Duncan when I tried contacting support about this issue

I have always assumed that the stacked treble/bass control was for space saving reasons.

Warwick often employs a stacked T/B control on its German-made instruments.
