Pot Opinions For My Fat Strat Guard....

I'm still waiting on some of the bits and pieces to arrive so you guys will have to do with my beautiful artwork as a visual aid...

So a Duncan TB-11 Custom/Custom bridge with Lindy Fralin Split Coils in the neck & middle slots. If this was a all Duncan guard I probably wouldn't be asking this question but this will be my first experience with the Split coils. I know from personal experience that the TB-11 will sound pretty great regardless of the pot values in the harness but even the internet seems to have different views on the subject matter of the Fralin's...

Originally my plan was to wire it up with a 500K volume pot and two 250K tone knobs as shown in my drawing. However it's since been suggested to me by one person that I use all 250K's & someone else said I should go with a all 500K harness? I trust both these guys but it's probably also worth mentioning that neither of them actually has had first hand experience with Fralin Spilt Coils either?

I've got the potentiometers to do any of the above, what I don't have is a ton of time to keep taking it apart so I'd like to get it right the first time!

Opinions????

Re: Pot Opinions For My Fat Strat Guard....

Fralin Split Blades need 250k pots. They are a lot brighter than you think. They also have C8 mgnets in there - the 250k pot helps smooth them out.

PS Classic Stack Plus sound better and cost less..

Re: Pot Opinions For My Fat Strat Guard....

I would do it as 500k volume, 250k for the singles' tone, and 500k for the humbucker tone. If anything, you can experiment with the volume pot: 250k or 300k might work.

250K's ehh, I was kinda hoping that would be the answer I was given!!! In I've used TB-11's in Stratocasters in the past with numerous different harness layouts, personally I think the best I ever got one to sound was running off a stock MIM Stranded harness???

As far as the pickups go, I got a crazy good deal on them!!! $120 shipped for a basically new calibrated Blues/Hot set of three!!! Originally I was just going to use all Split Blades but I already know exactly what would happen because I've been down that road several times before. I'd like it well enough but I'd have this lingering feeling like something was missing, then eventually I'd have to pull it apart & replace it! Since I don't use my bridge for clean stuff often I'd just rather have a full size humbucker bridge instead of the Split Coil Hot....

Once I get this guard finished & wired up I'm sending it out for a fret level/crowning/setup. When it's gone I'll probably build another S/S/S guard out of the Hot Spilt Blade bridge & my stock Texas Special's in the middle/neck slots to sell & hopefully recover most, if not all of what I've spent building this....

Re: Pot Opinions For My Fat Strat Guard....

The hot bridge is pretty sweet. might as well try it!
