Pot Problems

Hey guys. Just replaced a couple pots that were acting up while in a guitar. One was a volume that was not giving any sound and the other was a tone pot that would reduce treble until about 2. Below that it would quit and all treble would be back as if it were at 10.

I yanked 'em out. To double check, I wired up a pickup and a jack. Both worked as volume pots flawlessly.

I'm scratching my head. Could they have been victims of cold solder joint? The sketchy tone pot response is what really has me confused. Anyone deal with this before?

Re: Pot Problems

The volume sounds like bad wiring but for the tone one, could it be the taper? Check the taper section here

A wiring error on my part makes sense for the volume. The tone isn't a taper issue though. Had two identical pots in the guitar. The other one was fine. Never had that kind of sound issue before. It's weird.

Re: Pot Problems

Pots legal in California now....maybe you could get some high quality ones from out there....
