Pot Upgrade questions

Greetings all,

Looking to upgrade the pots in the guitar, one volume and (can not think of the name of the other) tone?,

Looking to go to the SH4 and SH2 model pups, but i know these pots in here are junk what size should i look to get, 25k, 50k, etc?

Also is it advised to replace all other wiring and toggle as well? (IE: Jumper wires, wire to jack, Etc)

Thanks again

Re: Pot Upgrade questions

For that setup, I'd get a 500k volume and a 250k tone pot, if it's a bright guitar; get a 500k tone if it's a dark toned guitar. I'd go with Bournes. Get a "linear-taper" volume pot and an "audio-taper" pot for the tone. You probably don't need to replace any other wiring, unless it is badly done or needs repair. http://www.bourns.com/proaudio/pamm.aspx

Get a "linear-taper" volume pot and an "audio-taper" pot for the tone.

That's backwards .... you want Audio for volume and in 99% of guitars made an audio also gets used for tone but some prefer to use linear.

The Bournes stuff is nice and also the CTS brand is another standard

Re: Pot Upgrade questions

hmmm
Carvin and Ibanez use Linear volume and Audio Tone

one of the Admins here (Jeremy) uses linear for both
I have used audio for both

you may be right John but I agree with Ian
Thank you for letting me contribute to the discussion

Re: Pot Upgrade questions

Thanks all who have replied.

As far as the Bright or Dark tone of the guitar it is really hard for me to say overall as the stock pups seems to cut all higher freq's when playing even while pushed with high gain. hence the swap to something i know a little more better.

However for those who may know it is one of the Jackson Rhoads JS32FR's,

Indian Cedro (cedar) body, and rosewood fretboard. but the CVR2's to me personally seem to be an abortion gone wrong due to its lack of tonal abilities. but mayhap someone out here has done this swap and has a better definition on this guitar Brightness/Darkness than what i can give.
