Potential new build in the works

Years ago, i sent Tommy at USACG a padauk body blank that i sourced out with the super nice orange grain. Well, for one reason or another, i never got around to actually having them do something with it. I dont know what brought it back into mind, but i called Tommy and he said they should still have it since they never throw out or use customer blanks.

He is going to have a look around for it and give me a call back on monday if he finds it. If so, i plan on doing a tele body with a 59n and a QP bridge. Probably a standard american bridge and im gonna add the tummy cut. I have a neck for it already from USACG that i bought a while back too. V profile high grade flame maple for both the neck and the fingerboard.

Im probably just gonna do an oil finish on the body to bring out the color and the grain and to keep it simple since i wont be able to spray anything here for months because of the cold weather.

Hopefully he finds it!

Sweet dude! I've had work done by Tommy as well, and man oh man, he's the best I've ever seen.

My USACG neck is the best neck I've ever had.

Yeah, it really is impossible to impress on people how good the work is until they lay their own hands on it

Very well said. I couldn't agree more. Guitars are so often described with hyperbole that many words have lost their meaning when it comes to guitars.

I wrote a detailed thread about the craftsmanship on my neck; let me see if I can find it. I described some quantifiable details IIRC.

Re: Potential new build in the works

woohoo!

Spoke to Tommy again today and he had it in front of him. Going ahead with the tele, humbucker neck and standard bridge with the tummy cut for a tiny bit of weight relief. He said he should have it done and on its way to me some time this week.

Pics when it arrives.

Re: Potential new build in the works

Slight change in plans. Turns out the body was on the thin side so it needed a top. We decided to go with a nice spruce top to compliment the idea of an all natural looking finish, and hopefully not clash with the orange padauk. I havent seen it but i trust tommy when he says it should look great. Its all going to get clear coated and the spruce top will be 1/4" thick so that in itself should provide some sweet natural binding.
