potentiometer question

what good is it to switch pots? people hear that i have hotrails and coolrails in my strat, then they advise me to switch to 250 pots. i dont know about guitar guts, so what good will it do?

a higher value of the pot lets higher frequencies pass thru. all pots bleed a little signal to ground, the higher value the pot the less you loose which comes across as a brigter tone when the pots full up. a lower value will give you a warmer tone

Switching from 250K to 500K will make your pickups brighter and clearer.

Switching from 500K to 250K will make your pickups darker and have less treble.

Alot of guys who never play out complain about thier guitars being to bright and switch to 250K pots to tame the high end you get playing in your bedroom all alone and with the amp's speaker 2' from your ear...then they start playing out and can't cut through a raging rock band wailing at full tilt like a Boeing 747!

But your tone is up to you....you gotta be comfortable.
