Pots and cap for HSS Jackson.

I have a late 90s Basswood Jackson dinky that currently has a EMG in the bridge. I've picked up a Duncan Distortion and plan on adding a SSL1 and SSL 5 in the mid and neck positions. The guitar has 1 volume, 1 tone. Can anyone recommend the correct pots and cap for this setup.

Re: Pots and cap for HSS Jackson.

I have a Distortion in an alder strat right now with a 500K volume pot, and no tone control or cap and I like the way it sounds. I don't really know how the single coils would get along with a 500K volume, but with a tone control, I'd think you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Since the singles are in the neck and middle positions, it might work just fine. Just remember there is no "correct" setup, just the one that makes it sound and react the way you want it to.

I have a SSL2 x 2 and 59/C combo in a guitar with a 500k volume and tone, and it works fine.

Some people do a resistor mod on guitars that have a combination of singles and buckers, which consists of soldering a 500k resistor at the switch terminals where the single coils are wired, so that when you switch to the singles, it sees 250k value for the pots. There's a thread about it somewhere...
