pots for EMGs???

what kind of pots should i get for some EMGs? the tech hasnt done anything to it yet, so i can still tell him what id like, but id have to buy em... and do they really make a difference? ive only played my stock things so i have no idea, ive jsut seen you guys talk about em and was wanting to know what difference it would make

If you buy an EMG pickup new, they include the pots and stereo jack you need to install it. If these are used you need 25K Ohm pots for volume and tone.

so whats the different number in front of k mean? my wild guess is it lets more power thru to the pup increasing output or somehting?

A potentiometer is a variable resistor. The more "resistance" you put in front of the pickup, the lower the volume. Resistance is measured in Ohms, passive pickups work best with 250K-500K Ohm pots. (250,000 - 500,000) Active pickups are lower impedance (similar to resistance) so they work better with lower value pots. If you use 500K Pots with EMGs, you will get no volume for most of the sweep of the pot, then it will nearly instantly rise to full volume. The lower value will give you a nice gradual volume increase.

(I know the above is not really how it works, but for someone with little electronics knowledge, I think it's alot easier to understand)

Like PFDarkside said, just use the EMG pots that come in the package automatically. 250k-500k etc. pots work with EMGS, but they don't work as well, you don't have so much control with them. The EMG pots are free with the pup, so no reason not to use them. I don't believe that they make different pots than the ones they ship with the pups.
