Pots for Sterling Sub 4

I want to install a SMB 4A pickup on my Sterling Sub 4 bass. The wiring diagrams show 3 100k pots but the the Sub 4 only has 2 tone controls with a 250k and 100k pot. What pots should I use with this pickup/configuration?

Welcome to the forum.

The diagram to which you refer - http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=mm_replace - illustrates the SMB-4 pickup and STC-3M pre-amp/EQ active electronics accessory.

The 100k pots are only appropriate with the active electronics.

The most basic passive wiring would look like this diagram. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=musicman_passive

If I still want to have active pickups, do I use a 100k treble and a 1m RA bass pot as shown in these diagrams? http://www.musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0019.htm

Re: Pots for Sterling Sub 4

Typically, +9v active pickups will be mated to 25k pots. e.g. EMG, some Bartolini models.

The conventional MusicMan approach is passive pickup(s) through a buffered pre-amp and active EQ. The Duncan SMB/STC combination adopts the same approach.
