Pots to use with Seymour Duncan JB & Jazz Pickups?

I have a Parker Fly Mojo Single Cut with Seymour Duncan JB & Jazz pickups installed. I've been reading about using 250k pots with the JB and I was thinking about trying it on my Mojo guitar which currently has 500k pots. The guitar has the following controls:
- 2 volume controls
- 1 tone control with push-pull coil-tapping
- 3 way switch

Based off of some other people's experience in this forum, I was looking for some advice:

- Should I put 250k pots on BOTH volume controls? Or is it better to put a 250k pot only on the JB but keep the 500k pot on the Jazz?

- Should I also use a 250k tone pot or keep the 500k pot?

- I'm probably going to use a 0.022uF Orange Drop cap, but I'm open to other suggestions.

i'd stay away from a 250 for the jazz, you want more highs for the neck. as for the jb, you could also try it with a 500k but that's just me. if you want less highs, use a 250k. .022 orange drops are a great choice.

Hi Mark Welcome to the Forum.. How do you like your tone now with 500k.. If you like it then stick with it. If you still wanna change it I suggest going 250 k all the way for all the pots. I have used a JB with both 250 k pots and 500k pots and I liked it both ways.. I currently do use it with 500k with a jazz in the neck. But I am not ruling out switching back to 250k..

I like the sound of the Jazz, but the JB sounds kinda bright so I rarely use it. I do like the sound of both pickups with split coils; that's the only time I use the JB.

Can I mix pot values with a 250k for the JB and a 500k for the Jazz? I don't know if there are any unwanted side-effects to this arrangement.

Jazz volume: 500k audio taper
JB volume: 250k or 300k audio taper
(Shared) tone: 500k linear or audio taper with 0.022uf capacitor

A setup like that would work well....

I just threw a 0.015uf cap I had sitting around in my guitar, and I gotta say it's pretty much more usable than a 0.022uf cap.

But yeah a 250k pot on just the JB should warm it up.

I like the idea of the linear pot for tone. Most of the tone change is bunched up at the end of the pot with an audio taper.

I recently bought a wide range of values of orange drop caps and after trying them all (with some soldered in alligator clips), I decided on a .01uf cap. But after spending some time using it, I might go with a .015uf for something in the middle (it had a .022uf on it before).

imo, having a higher or lower cap doesn't do too much because whatever value i choose, i'm always going to roll off the amount of highs i want to roll off; having a higher value cap just allows more range to cut off some high mids to mids too. but if you like rolling the tone all the way off and you don't want to cut off any mids or high mids lower value caps are the way to go.

That's not exactly the way that caps affect the tone control. A higher value cap will begin cutting off treble at a lower frequency than a lower value cap, even when both are on "10". That's why a lot of people gravitate toward 0.022uf, 0.015uf, and 0.01uf caps. They give more usable tones throughout the range of the control, than a 0.1uf or 0.047uf cap will. It's not about how much signal is being cut out, it's about what part of the signal is being cut out.
