Thanks, that's a great idea, and that's precisely it, I love the tone but in my situation it's difficult to deal with the whistlingThe owner of this pup may want to save it for recording someday, yet it may be unusable live.
Anyways, the option that I didn't see mentioned here is to simply mail the pickup to MJ at the Custom Shop and have her make you another one that is wax potted, yet sounds similar. I doubt it would cost that much money. Maybe twice what an off the shelf SD costs. You can always call the Custom Shop and talk to them about it. This certainly wouldn't be the first PAF / PAT pickup that they cloned.
(I'll call this the "Have your Cake and Eat it too" option.)
