Power Amp Help

Re: Power Amp Help

I have a GT-6 that I run through a Peavey Classic 50/50 (8xEL-84) into a pair of 1x12 cabs. Works like a champ. I got the amp used for... $200 maybe? Have had to have it serviced once - one of those "the tech opens it up and pokes around and it fixes itself" but it seems to be built like a tank. One of these days I should have it re-tubed, but am not looking forward to the $100+ price tag.

Re: Power Amp Help

Any power amp you buy will work, but the feel will change depending on what type of tube is in it, just like in an amp head or combo.

What are some amps you've played that you like? What models in your GT-8 do you choose? If you like Marshall type amps you'll probably want an EL34 power amp, and if you like Mesa or Fender types you might be happier with 6L6. This is assuming you choose the tube route though.

I have a Classic 50/50 also and I can't say enough good things about it. I use mine with either my POD XT Live or my H&K Attax preamp and it's pretty tonefull and has a nice feel to it.
