Power Attenuator & Speaker Attenuator

Re: Power Attenuator & Speaker Attenuator

Are you talking about something like an Eminence FDM.....or a Dr Z Airbrake..?
The speaker has an adjustable flux control for the magnet.
The Airbrake can be used between any amp and speaker.
The difference is obvious...I assume. They will both attenuate the final volume
good luck

Re: Power Attenuator & Speaker Attenuator

Eminence is, to my knowledge, the only company to use this technology (I assume it's patent protected).
They have the brit-voiced Reignmaker and the American-voiced Maverick.
I'm currently usin the Reignmaker in a 1x12 cab and really like it. Works as advertised and doesn't take much (if anything) away from the original non-attenuated tone.

Re: Power Attenuator & Speaker Attenuator

There's a whole bunch of things in that space:
  • Does speaker emulation or not
  • Burns power but still wants a real cabinet behind it...
  • ...or not, intended for line out (should have speaker simulation)
  • Burns power using a couple fat resistors...
  • ...or using a real speaker coil (which changes electrical properties as it moves, interacting with the amp's output stage)
