power attenuator

Re: power attenuator

I have a 50 watt Mini Mass and love it...while shopping for it I tried Hot Plates, a Dr. Z Air Brake, an Ultimate Attenuator and decided that they all mess with your tone at heavy levels of attenuation but the Weber did it less to my ears plus it works on several impedences...it was the winner hands down IMO!

Re: power attenuator

I recentley bought a Weber Lite Mass 100 and I think it's fantastic!

It's got 2 dials for attenuation. One dial is for the Lows/Mids and the other dial is for the Mids/Highs. This works really well with my DSL 50. Why anyone would build that much treble into an amp is beyond me. I tried Beam Blockers (which did help) and even had my EQ pedal going into the loop to calm the high end down but I did'nt care for the results.

Now with the Mass Lite I keep the dial for the Lows/Mids at about a 12:00 position and keep the dial for the Mids/Highs at about a 7:00 position and all of that nasty, ear-grinding ice-pick treble is smoothed out. Now I can actually use the Mid, Treble and Presence controls on my amp to a degree that was'nt possible before and it's made a HUGE differance in the way my amp sounds.

I would highly recommend looking into one of these units not only for the attenuation, but also for those whos amps have an excess of treble.
