Power Conditioners

I'm having a problem lately with radio interference coming through my amp and another bass amp. It is really anoying and it isn't going away, but i know that this is a common problem. I have been reading about power conditioners that say they filter out inter ference from things like computer monitors and radio transmitters. Do you think that this will get rid of or at least greatly reduce the radio coming through my amp? If so, what kind of power conditioner should i get, keeping i mind that it can't be too expensive?

Re: Power Conditioners

Power conditioners can probably help, but bad interference is bad interference and no power conditioner can perform miracles. I happen to like the Monster Power filtering I've got. Didn't notice any difference with the basic Furman stuff.

Re: Power Conditioners

I looked at the monster one that runs about $200. Is that one any good? I think $200 is about the max that i would want to spend.

The one I have on my pedalboard has the basic Stage 1 power filtering and it works for me, I think I spent maybe $60-70 on it?.

I'm inclined to go with Kivitel on this, check your basics: look at your cable, make sure you've got a proper ground running through wherever you're plugging into. With that said, the tone in my rig does seem to be a bit richer with the power filtering.

Re: Power Conditioners

might be your cable or guitar wiring too if you're getting radio

Yeah, look into those factors first, because it'll be frustrating to buy a conditioner that doesn't solve the problem. It could be anything from cheap cables, a pedal that's acting as an antenna, or a flaw in your guitar's electronics. I had that problem on my G&L for awhile, so I changed the pots and it went away.

Re: Power Conditioners

+ 1 check your cables.

You'd be surprised how sensative a bad cable can get.

Re: Power Conditioners

Yank all your pedals out of the chain and plug your guitar straight in to the amp. If you don't hear the radio, then add one pedal at a time and listen for the radio interference to come back. You'll find the source of the problem real fast that way. If you hear it even plugged straight in, try a different guitar. If it's still there, change the cord. If it's still there after that, it's the amp.

I ran in to this same issue when I played with my brother-in-law. There's a tower not far from their house and I used to get a local AM station loud and clear with a couple of my pedals. It's a PITA to eliminate sometimes. Turns out for me it was just those pedals. One I built, one I didn't.

LOL!!!

My Boss DS1 (which I no longer use) used to pick up an AM radio station too!!

After some careful listening I realized it was RADIO DISNEY!!! ARRRRGGHGHH!!! :rocket:

Really? My DS-1 was the one I didn't build that had the problem.

My Rangemaster clone was the one I did build. Fixed that one, almost, with a couple shunting caps to ground.

They picked up 820 WBAP. We used to listen to the hockey game through my amp in between songs if the Stars were playing that night....LOL.

Re: Power Conditioners

Don't think for a minute that good cables will not give you any problem. I have a Planet Wave cable that picks up a religious radio station whenever I played in my other guitarist's basement. It's odd because it only happened there, nowhere else.

That was not the cable - it was GOD!
