Power Requirements

This is probably a stupid question... but that's never stopped me before...

I was working on setting up a venue for a small concert, and I was aksed about the power requirements for the band. I really wasn't sure.

So... If I am running a 100 watt amp, does that mean it is pulling 100 watts out of the wall? In other words, is it equivalent to running a 100 watt light bulb? Then three such amps would consume 300 watts?

Re: Power Requirements

That's the power it's delivering to the speakers. In a 100% efficient amp, it would be drawing 100W from the wall, too, but amps are nowhere near 100% efficient. All the LEDs or lights draw power, and a lot of power is lost through heat.

There should be an ampere rating on the back. That multiplied by 120 for the voltage is closer to what your amp is pulling from the wall.

Re: Power Requirements

Okay, thanks - that makes sense. I'll check the amp for the ampere rating, which is probably what the guy wanted to know in the first place anyway.
