Power supply, Filter Caps

Re: Power supply, Filter Caps

New 47uF cap installed in the according to the schematic 4.7 spot. The amp sounds way better! Never thought about mistakes on schematics when looking for problems. Anyway played with the amp for about an hour today and nothing blew up. Tone is great now with Treble on 2.5 bass on 10 and middle on 3. Tone controls don't do a lot like on my other amps and these are active, seems to me something is not right still, anyway it has more bottom end now and that is what it was lacking. The one tone setting sounds great, really makes a difference when the volume control on at least 2.5 witch is actually 1.5, there is no zero, 1 is off. It's just very loud at 2.5, Too loud for in the house so I guess that makes this amp a gigging only amp.

Re: Power supply, Filter Caps

I bought a Kalamazoo Bass 30 many years ago. 2x10 vertical combo, meant as a bass amp but probably used more for guitar than bass. Pretty beat up. I bought it online but from a small brick and mortar dealer, cheap. The owner of the shop said that he had been using if for recording and it worked but the volume was very low. Kind of the opposite or your situation, but related. The schematic showed a different value resistor in one spot that was in the amp. Strange thing is that the resistor looked original. I highly doubt that it would have left the Kalamazoo shop like that but it must have been that way for years. One resistor change, an on-off switch and it was good to go. I did replace the old electrolytic caps as well and new tubes. It's clean, dimed. It makes for a great guitar amp with a pedal in front of it.

Good to hear that you are getting it sorted out.
