Power tube reviews

I searched for a long time on the forum, but couldn't find many reviews on power tubes. I found plenty for pre amp though. Please contribute a review on power tubes using any criteria such as inherent tone, quality, etc. Maybe label it 6l6 or el84 or whatever you wanna review. Thanks!

My personal favorites for modern production tubes are Shuguang 9th Generation, Tungsol, and Sovtek LPS pre tubes and JJ & Svetlana power tubes, but that just scrapes the surface of what's good in the tube world. It's also based on best for the least $. Here's a cool link, just to see some reviews of various tubes.

Thanks. I am a little confused about the power ratings. Does it matter if I get two 30 watt tubes to go in a 40 watt amp? I'm probably thinking too much!

no it doesnt. some tubes are louder and can handle more voltage but if properly biased they will work fine

From my experience for power tubes in a marshall amp, I would suggest svetlanas el-34 for a looser bottom end or winged c el-34s for tighter bottom end.

The wattage on tubes is the wattage they use not the wattage they put out. Kind of like a 40 watt lightbulb does not put out 40 watts of light, it uses 40 watts of electricity. Light output is measured in Lumens. Guitar amp tubes USE 25 or 30 watts, the output of the amp is a combination of tube output and transformer output plus many other factors in the amps circuit.
