Powerblock

ok, So I played this thing in hopes of sounding beefy, and L-O-U-D! But came out Short. My brother lent it to me for a gig we played, and I ran my korg ampworks into it. I learned two things. I HATE AMP MODELERS and I HATE THE POWERBLOCK. It did somethings fine, but it sounds fizzy, weak, and brittle. I Played it through a 2X12 marshall. The guitars were a fat strat style alvarez with fender 62s and a Pearly Gates Plus, and a Wasburn Mercury2 with active EMGs. IDK, I just miss playing the Bassman.

Re: Powerblock

the powerblock is no substitue for a bassman but mine has gotten me out of lots of troubles. it may not be pretty but itll work and its way better than going thru the pa

Re: Powerblock

Yeah..hehe. The power block is a Honda, and the Bassman is any Mopar with a 426 Hemi with two 4bbl carbs...

Re: Powerblock

The powerblock is designed to sound like nothing, the opposite of tone colouration.

Works great as a bass amp with the preamp section.

ALL the goodies are at the back, plug a preamp of choice in there and you'll be suprised.

Re: Powerblock

He thinks he sounded like poo 'cuz he was going up against my Rivera. ;)

The PB is fine, you just need to learn to tweak it. Playing through a modeling/power amp rig does take some getting used to, but you CAN get great tones.

Re: Powerblock

why would you think a high-watt solid state head would sound huge? especially thru a 2x12...ick

what happened to your bassman man? I think i would just quit guitar altogether if i didn't have my Bassman

Re: Powerblock

I heard a Crate PowerBlock the first time about 6 months ago, being demo'd at my local store into a marshall 1960, and boy did it sound bad to my ears !
The louder it got the worst it got . . .

I was not impressed !
The teenager bought it, as a back-up to his Marshall AVT150-something !

It should fit right in with his current rig, eh?

I thought the one I tried sounded really grainy through the Crate cab it was plugged into...maybe not the best cab?

Re: Powerblock

it's meant to get you out of a jam when the bassman blows a tube. and it was most likely designed with a pod in mind, not a korg. and it is loud, especially for its size.

So you are saying the powerblock will sound good, if somewhat bland and never die, and the bassman will sound awesome, but break down all the time........

which is completely bogus because the only time my 60's bassman ever stopped working was when i shipped it to my dad's house in Georgia and the power tubes shattered. It even held up to daily band practice doing double duty as bass AND guitar amplifier thru an 8 ohm 2x10 cabinet back in the day...and it's only supposed to handle 4 ohms. Thing is built like a dragon!!!..which i hope becomes more overused than 'built like a tank' some day.

I over heard the conversation, as they came to sit next to me, in the shop, while i noodled on a MIM Tele.
Once i heard that he wants to use it for bed-room/gig back up amp, i thought it was not a bad deal, as his main gig amp is not the best in that price range (imho any way), and he got a very good discount i believe.

Still not a usable sound for my style of music :thumbsdow
