Powering BOSS ACA pedals.

Is the ACA adaptor just a normal adapter that sends out 12v instead of 9v? I have a BBE charger that can be set to 12 volts is this fine to use with old BOSS pedals?

Re: Powering BOSS ACA pedals.

I've had good success with Danelectro Zero-Hum adapters for ACA Boss stuff.

You should still be able to order an ACA adapter from your local Boss dealer too...

Re: Powering BOSS ACA pedals.

Just checked the BBE manual online and it does actually say use the 12v for ACA power supply pedals. I guess its the same as the PPII. Would it matter that its regulated (wouldn't that be better?). The HM-2 does work with 9v ... sorta it basically acts like it has a dying battery so I'm using it on battery at the moment.

What you DON'T want to do is plug a 9-volt pedal that is supposed to take the PSA adaptor into a ACA adaptor. POOF! New pedal time!

Re: Powering BOSS ACA pedals.

If you have a daisy-chain power supply like a 1-Spot you can actually run ACA pedals on 9v as if they were PSA pedals, as long as you have at least one PSA-type pedal also on the daisy chain. I have a CE-2 and it works fine on a 1-Spot daisy chain with my DD-3 and GE-7. Obviously you have to be prepared to accept the limitations of using a daisy-chain with common ground though (possible hum).

There's a kind of explanation of this here http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/bossadapt.htm and here http://www.bossarea.com/other/aca.asp .

Not necessarily. That's all dependent on what the core components can handle. The caps will be rated at either 16V or 35V. The op amp can usually handle that swing to 12V as the max is usually +/- 15V. If anything, the power pretection circuit (reverse polarity diode) will have a max rating of 12V and might pop. Then that diode just needs to be changed and maybe an electrolytic cap depending on the circuit.

I would avoid plugging an ACA adapter in to a PSA rated digital delay or other digital pedals but most of the overdrives can be powered with either one just fine.
