PowerStage 170 for bass cabs?

Hi All, and thank you for checkin' in on my post. I recently bought a Phil Jones C2 (https://www.pjbworld.com/cms/c2-2/) and want to connect it to my Zoom B6 for a really compact setup. Does anyone have experience running a bass modeler through the PowerStage 170, and if so, what thoughts and insight can you share? Thanks again. Tony

Welcome to the forum!

I have used the PowerStage 200 through a bass cab, with a Fractal modeler, and it was awesome. I never tried the PJ cab, but their stuff is generally top notch.

Thank you for the warm welcome and response Mincer!

Do you remember what type of cab you used and if there were challenges matching ohms or any other setup issues? The 170 seems to suggest it accepts resistances from 4 - 16 ohms, but there's no physical switch, so I'm wondering if a circuit detects the resistance from the cab? Again, I'm happy to listen if anyone knows more about that. I have a "feeling" that the 170 will work, but because I haven't found any mention of its use to power bass cabs, I want to hear as much feedback as possible.

its a solidstate amp, so you get full power at 4 ohms, half that at 8 ohms, and half again at 16 ohms. itll work just fine, its a clean power source. with an 8 ohm cab, youll get 85w. is this for live gigs or home use or ?

Well, all I remember was that it was a 2x10 Ampeg cab, and that's all I knew about it. Certainly loud enough to gig with, though.

jeremy, I plan to use it for sheddin' at home, rehearsals, and small room performances (read: no engineer or FOH... just show up and play while folks are doing other things LOL). My sense is the PowerStage will get the job done. But it's also more than just a few coins too, so I appreciate your and Mincer's input. 'Ppreciate y'all. I think I'll pull the trigger. :-)

If you will not using the PowerStage with anything else I would look elsewhere. There's a lot of better bass amp for less money.
Look for a bass amp with effects loop or one with a relatively flat frequency response (have a look in thegearpage.net about using a TC Bam200 bass amp whit guitar modelers).

Yeah, but the PowerStage fits on a pedalboard, and you don't need a full bass amp to do what he wants.

donaldr I wasn't up on the Bam200, so I looked into it. The thing is I have access to a half dozen premium preamp models in the Zoom B6, so I'd be looking to bypass the preamp section on the Bam200 respectfully. I just need the power amp section. Otherwise, I'd get the amp PJ designed to match the C2 cab.

Have you looked at the thread I mentioned?

Flatter than many amps and super affordable. It can work as a backup also.
