PRACTICE RIFF in Am

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
My 9 year old son has been bugging me to make him backing tracks so that he can play bass to them, so tonight I wrote/recorded the 1st one for him, and I realized --- hmmmm, this is actually a cool riff to solo over!

It's a very simple, RATT-esque progression, but I found myself coming up with all kinds of melodic ideas for melody/solo to go on top of it, so here it is. It's just guitar/drums, Key of Am, 120 bpm -- nothing fancy, by any means.

Enjoy!!

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

Very Cool backing track T.O. :D I was just gonna put some Bass on
it. But then I was think'in W.T.F. Let me see if I still got some Metal
chops left in me?? A little rusty But I had fun doing it. :) KMC's rusty metal chops!!

BTW, If I played any scale other than a Penetonic Major/minor let me
know what it is :laugh2: Cuz' dat's the only one I know. :13: Really, No B.S.

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

WOW, that was fun! :D
kmc, let my start by saying you have some great melodic chops & ideas! I loved the call and response stuff, and soloing was really cool.
What did you use to track your stuff? Your guitar sound is HUGE, and appropriately 80's. :) A couple of spots reminded me of Blue Oyster Cult (in a good way).
The melody lines seem to be in A Natural Minor, with a lot of pentatonic minor, as well -- esp noticeable on that 1st descending scale.
I may give in and track a solo for this piece as well ...

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

Very cool TO, that's what I needed to try out my new rig... hope I'll have the time to solo over it before the end of the week....

KMCguitars, this is freakin' awesome! Great solo, super well played and very creatrive... who cares about what it is when it's this good, 'nough said :D

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

Yeah, Sly, let's hear that Traynor RIP!! :D
Hehe ... well, I'm glad my little practice riff is proving to be so inspirational!
I'm also looking forward to what Nuntius and Davey are gonna do with it!

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

Yeah, I won't listen to nuntius' clip, otherwise I'll sell the guitar and start taking kazoo lessons :D

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

sorry, but at the moment i cant do anything on this track.. 1st, not in the mood to write anything, 2nd i dont want to improvise as i want to actually WRITE a lead line and 3rd i'm still having soundcard problems and the bums at the computer store closed the doors at 4pm, so i got clipping issues and i cant double track (meaning i cant record a guitar separate from the backing track

thats a very nice take KMC =)

Ok here's my disclaimer. I've been snowed under with essays all week, so I've pretty much wasted all my time switching between the forum, MSN, and Microsoft Word :smack:

Anyway enough excuses.

Hi Fi Stream

Lo Fi Stream

MP3

Most of it is just improvised, I came up with a few lines which I wanted to include and just took it from there.

Thanks Guy's :D And T.O. what a GREAT ! B.T. you wrote. it just lends it
self to Melodies. I didn't even have to think about it I just felt my way
thru it. I used a Sonata (PRS knockoff) w/t a CustomCutsom in the bridge,
into a guitarport Solodano sim.

TO, when I try to access your file, I only get a page with two orange ads. No links...

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

nuntius, your clip rips! Great melodic playing. Depsite your excuses, which had me cry rivers of crocodile tears :D

Re: PRACTICE RIFF in Am

Got it now TO... great stuff! You almost tunr is into a song, which is your usual little magic touch.

This riff really calls for a melodic solo... mine is almost done, I just have to find a couple of fills here and there to make it tighter. SHould be ready today...
