the California 50's are a great idea ... calibrated sets have always been available, but other than the set in my '94 G & L Legacy, I haven't heard of anyone here who has a calibrated set that they bought.

I'm a newbie here and I just purchased a set of California 50s from Guitar Heaven (from a tip on these boards) to sink in the Squier Strat (mentioned in sig). Should arrive by 2/9. Can't wait! :arms: :arms:

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

First to the point: I'd like to know what set's people think SHOULD HAVE been released. I constantly see (and recommend):
the Pearly gates neck and Custom Custom bridge combo
And why not a "Pearly Gates" Texas blues set?
Heavy Duty: Invader b/Full Shred n?

I find it interesting that the Dealers say they don't match Distortions with the pups Seymour selected....How did they pick the pups to pair with distortions? By Sales of individual pups? Seymours personal choice? Focus group? What? I have to agree, based on Forum info I see some unusual choices and some obvious deletions!

P.S. I'm also a part-time business consultant when I'm not an imaginary rock star! Seymour, Call me - I'd be glad to swap some "Customer Focused decision approaches" your way for a set of pups!

For me personaly, my top three would have been:

59n/59b
59n/C5b
Jazz/JB

Since they got 2 out of 3, I'm pretty impressed. ;)

Edit: btw - I was initially surprised that John, (Black Rose Customs), didn't sell more 59 sets, 'til I got to thinking about it. I didn't buy mine as a "set" either. I think that folks have a natural tendency to want to try different things, and thus, are swayed by buying what they see as two of the same pup for the same guitar. Even my first set was the 59/C5. It took me awhile to stumble upon the 59 set, purely by accident, (sorta), and it has become one of my favorite pairs.

Just great, bluesy, ballsy, rock tone. ;)

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

I am a newbie and this has worked for me. I just ordered 2 sets, the Everything Axe and the California 50's. I noticed on the US sites that there isn't too much difference between the sets and the individual prices. In Canada there is a considerable difference. JB / Jazz set is $249 suggested list, separately $320. I can't wait until they come in.

Re: Pre-Matched Duncan Pickup Sets

I didn't see a F-ing Hails Rails set. You know, the set for those people who like to pillage and burn the neighborhood, and then sit down to a bowl of cereal. SD is already behind the times!!! :D

The JammerMatt set would be 6 pickups that you just keep switching around and switching around.

Nope, because the original press release (and from what I´ve gathered they started shipping then as well) was in Dec. 2k4 ;)

As far as sets, I´d think what would also work well would be...

The Hard Rockin´ Combo: Custom / ´59

The Firebreathing Strat: JB - SSL3 - SSL-3

....And offer the antiquities as "Time Machine" sets (So far I´ve only seen Anties singly, please disregard if there are already Anty-sets) ;)

Proof of a good marketing strategy . . . increased sales, and more cool forum folks. :)

I'm surprised that they don't have a "Country Twang" set, or similar. Something for the Tele crowd.

First - I have that set and love it - it rocks and is flexible! I think it would work for you though
Second - Those are DiMarzio guys.....FRED, ToneZone, HS-2's....
Third - The PGn/CCb....Spicy Custom Classics? It's reall a pair of suped up 59's...just juiced different ways
