Preamp booster in guitars with SD pickups

i was just wondering if the SD pickusp can be boosted like EMG Hz pickups. Jackson MG series have their own boosters.
Otherwise I have a Jackson RR3 with Sh-13 in bridge and Sh-10 in the neck.

Welcome to the forum.

There are a couple of different ways you can do it. You can install an internal booster inside the guitar or you can get the SFX-01 pickup booster that is a pedal where you can use it with any of your guitars.

Or are you talking about active pups?

Re: Preamp booster in guitars with SD pickups

I want a pickup booster in my guitar...no pedals. I want to activate this pickups i am using now.

Re: Preamp booster in guitars with SD pickups

The pedal is the same circuit, so it's worth it instead of installing the circuit in several guitars. If you've only got one guitar you'll be using it with, though, I can see where you wouldn't want to spend the extra money for a pedal.

Let me see if I can find what that's called.

Keep in mind, this isn't going to quite be like the active pickups that are usually in those. They're usually pickups specially designed for that purpose with pre-amp circuitry built in. They're actually going to respond a little differently than regular passive pickups with a booster.

I have to mayn pedals all ready, money isn't the problem. I would rather install the preamp in my guitar with a on/off switch because i don't reckon wi oudl be able to play cleans with the thing being on all the time.

Does SD have passive pickups designed specially for activation?

How will they respond? I don't need much more gain, i just need more compressed sound... i tried using many compressor pedals but the best compressed sound sounds with the active pickups.

OK, I think this is it. It's the same as the Firestorm used in the Jackson Dinkies.

The SFX-01 has a true bypass, so it doesn't color the tone at all when it's disengaged.

SD has a full offering of active pickups in single coils and buckers. The selection isn't quite as broad as EMG's, but I think they can do just as much with what they have. The Livewire single coils and the Livewire classic humbucker are very useable pickups that will work for a very wide range of tones. The Livewire metal is an insanely hot humbucker that's really not capable of cleans. Though, it will get you all the compression you're looking for, I'd imagine. The new Dave Mustaine set is supposed to be like an active JB/Jazz set, but no one around here has tried them yet. There are a few that have them on order, though.

Ok i'll think about that SFX things!!! Thanx!

I don't like the sound of JB4 and don't like moderate output hambuckers in the neck. So i geuss wi would never install Mustaine Live Wires into any guitar i own. I like the sound of both normal Live Wires (metal and classic). If i wanted them in my guitar i would put classic in the middle position and live in the neck, because i like a lot of mids and gain for soloing (i don't do solos in the bridge position because of too much presence and too thin sound). But i would never use LWM for the bridge because it has too much mids, i prefer more (shreding) treble and (pounchy) bass for rhytm distortions. I am very satisfied with the sound that Sh-13 gives me. If SD would ever make an Active Dimebucker i would definetly buy it.
