Preemptive NGD (Vintage MIJ content)

I really need to stop going to guitar center to "not buy anything."

1985 Ibanez PL1550. It looks to be all stock and even comes with the trem arm. I'd say it's in 8.5 condition. It plays and sounds like a mofo, and here's the kicker...

It only cost $250.

I have to sell my 62RI to buy it, but it's so worth it. I haven't fallen this hard for a guitar in years.

October 26th is going to be a great day.

Congrats, in advance. ;)

And I know what you mean by going to Guitar Center "just to look". The last three times I've been in there, I've had a used Jerry Cantrell wah, and two MIJ Jackson Dinkys follow me home.

I really need to quit going there or I'm not going to make it through college. lol

Imagine what it's like working there. Snacking on tubes and stompboxes, paying bills with guitars.

Haha, welcome to the Proline club. Pro Rock'r trem is a bit funky but the rest is good. Pups are ceramic, of course. I have the '86 version, which I love.

Guitars originally came with boomerang strap buttons.

Aceman will have something to say about this!

GC where I live is a great source for quality used gear at great prices.
I don't know how music go round stays in business.
Nice Ibanez, I would have jumped on that too.

Re: Preemptive NGD (Vintage MIJ content)

Is it on layaway? Or on a hold to sell time period? If the second and I have seen it talked about on here, how can GC and other stores put them out to sell but they can't leave?

Enjoy your new guitar. I think you will avoid Ace's point by having posted a photo even if you do not actually have the guitar.

Re: Preemptive NGD (Vintage MIJ content)

It's on police hold until the 26th so I had to put it on layaway.

That's a beauty and maple board to boot!

AWESOME score!! Esp cool to find a guitar that really moves you. Whats the neck shape like on those? Since I moved a year ago, I no longer have a neighborhood GC. Even when I did, I was usually never overwhelmed by the "deals" there. I dunno if I have rotten timing or a bad store.. I have seen posts like this for years, but the one in Jax always seemed steep or average to me. They even refused to give me a price break on a new tele that had a sizable chunk of wood gouged out of it. Oddly, last time I was there, the whole used guitar display was gone.. My luck, they prolly sold everything at crazy prices before I got there... haha

Re: Preemptive NGD (Vintage MIJ content)

The neck is actually pretty similar to my 62RI Strat - a medium C. Extremely comfortable.

Re: Preemptive NGD (Vintage MIJ content)

Nice.

I picked up a steal from GC about 8 or 9 years ago on a MIJ destroyer 420....hard case, 3 packs of strings out the door for 2 bills cash out the door. They had mismarked it, thinking it was the MIK small body destroyer they had taken in on trade from the same guy.

Must be some weird thing with GC and ibbys :)
