Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

My sister bought a Tech21 Bronzewood (since discontinued), that she bought based on the fact that, after slight tweaking in the store, we couldn't tell the difference between what was coming out of the amp through the RareEarth pickup, and what what was coming out of the guitar.

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

I like the Fishman SA220 better for solo or duo stuff than for a band situation. My g/f was in a band for a long time where the guitar player used one, and at most gigs all she could hear was the guitar. Now, that could be a case of user error, but I think it was just too much dispersion to basically be used as an on stage monitor.

That's always a cool feeling. My g/f and I had the same experience when she tried her 68 Bassman out in the store. When the store owner came in from his workshop, he commented that he thought someone was playing a 50 foot fiddle in his store, it just sounded so natural.

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

The acoustic amp will be used in medium and large venues. Basically need a really good one that can hold its own during a concert with many electric guitar amps (and all the rest) on stage. Thanks for anymore info you guys can share!

I'd still recommend the DI approach - your singer'll be going through a PA, might as well let it carry the acoustic, too.

Agreed. Even if you get an amp like a Shenendoah or a Loudbox, I'd use the DI out to go into the PA and use the actual amp as more of a monitor on stage.

this. almost any acoustic amp is going to feedback if you have enough stage volume to keep up with a raging electric amp without using the pa. I use my loudbox as my monitor and let the pa do the heavy lifting

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

My acoustic rig is brand new as of this weekend - Dtar Mama Bear > Dtar Equinox > line 6 M9 > Neunaber Wet Reverb > Genz Benz Shen 100. Some of this stuff is redundant. But I'd never lose the Mama Bear or the GB. I got the amp used for $375 with a pole stand. Strangely enough having the amp at ear level makes a huge difference. The Mama Bear on EBay for $120.

Both Dtar and Genz Benz are out of business, so that makes me want to snap this stuff when I see it used.

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

Fishman Loudbox mini sounded great to me with a Yamaha CPX. The onboard chorus and reverb are nice and subtle. Couldn't get a bad sound out of it.

Re: Preferred or Best Acoustic Amp?

So many good vibes for the LB mini I just had to pull the trigger. Sweetwater had a demo model for just under three bill so that sealed it. It will be a bit less imposing in my living room than my sa220.
