Prescribe me some magnets

I've got a set of PGn and an A2 59/C I pulled out of a Strat I've had em in for the longest time. I'm going to buy a 3 band EQ and preamp for a Les Paul and then throw these in to replace the stock BB2 and BB3 set.

I'm thinking of going A4 neck and double thick A8 bridge or possible A4 in both slots. I'm a bit worn out on A2s and A3s for now, but I'm open to suggestion.

It's pretty great, a CC with less overbearing mids and more clarity and note seperation. If you ask me the changes between a Custom wind and 59/C wind definitely favor an A2 magnet over an A5.

a4 for both vs double thick a8 is quite a difference. i think a4 neck will probably be cool, though i havent tried it how much oomph do you want from the bridge?

In my book an A8 was just bit too much of verything (bass, mids, highs and volume), but moreso a dbl A8. Right now I am a big fan of A6 in bridge pickups. I use a 59b and a PGB with an A6.

Hmm, I do have an A6 laying around, it's an older magnet that's slightly thinner than standard and looks to be made by a novice. What can I expect from it in the bridge? In this case I would leave the A2 in the neck most likely, because it's pretty great as is

Interesting. I may have to try this.

Tell us what you want to change about the pickups you have. If we don't know what you are shooting for, any recommendation is pretty pointless.

Try A9 in the neck and double thick A2 in the bridge then. Unless I'm going for something else, this is my main goal, more warmth in the bridge and more cut in the neck.

How's A9 compare to the other magnets? Double thick A2 sounds like it could be something I might want

A9 is like A5 but with added upper mids. So it's oriented, responds the same, has the same bass and highs, but has some added upper mid cut.

Yeah double thick A2 is a champ for bridge.

Total sidebar - so might be a nice neck companion to a CC bridge?
