Noticed you're a kiwi. Dunno about Dean prices locally or otherwise, but I do know that Bungalow Bill's just off Symonds St in Auck city stocks some Dean guitars. Might be worth giving them a call.

"List" price on the USA Dean Hardtails is anywhere from $2600 to $3500 or so, depending on the type of top they have on them. You can normally pick them up at "Retail" prices anywhere from $1600 (this is usually the low end) to $1999, more for the spalted maple or other high grade tops.

On a slightly used basis, they can be had for $1400 or so and up. I picked mine up for $1350 on eBay, and one of our board members here has one for sale at $1200 - a great steal. It may be worth it to look into buying that and paying shipping.

The Hardtail Selects are the Korean made version of the hardtail. You get a rosewood board instead of ebony, and dot inlays (except 12th, you get the Hardtail), and Dean pickups instead of Duncans. They are very decent guitars, and well worth the $600 or so you'll pay for them.
