Princeton Reverb Re-Issue?

Why isn't there a Princeton Reverb RI? The Blues Junior is in the slot once filled by the Princeton. A Princeton Reverb RI would be a great seller. I should drop a suggestion to Fender and see if they think I'm right. I could shop ebay and pawn shops until I find a used PR in my price range, but that's not really the point of my query.

If a guy wanted a new Princeton Reverb he's gonna have to go with Matchless, Victoria, or an amp kit. Hey Fender Amps, what's up with that?

What would you do if you wanted a new princeton Reverb? Settle for a used one cause it would be better than a new amp from Fender any how?

Pretty Much,YUP! I love PR's. I've had mine for over 10 years now.To my ears
The PR is the sweetess sounding amp/circuit of the whole BF/SF line. Fender
has chosen to use the Princeton name on their S.S. line now. So that would
be the 1st area of confusion. 2nd) It would be a PCB amp and I don't see how
they could make it cheaper than buying a old one. And/or as good? 3rd) most
players pass on the PR for sevral reason's. Nobody seems to favor the 10" speaker. The amp does get a Lil' flubby in the lowend. I've played many gigs
with mine but most would like a Lil' more firepower than 12 watts. So I guess
were in the minority here? :blackeye: But I do like the idea. PRRI

Man the prices on those amps have gone thru the roof in Toronto.. So there is a demand for them! I saw an early 70's silverfaced Princton Reverb amp with a price tag of $999 Canadian.... The guy must be nuts! It was like new but still the guy must be crazy....

I want a Princton and i'd buy a reissue... My Favourite player used a Princton on some of the best Who tracks..... The album Who's Next was recorded with a Hiwatt in the sound booth, and a Princton Reverb in the band room.. both amps were mic'd and the sound of that album is part Princton..... Won't Get Fooled Again thru a Princton..... yippee!!!!

I call all those the Ivy League amps. Princeton and Harvard. I think you're right, they should reissue the Princeton. My old bassist had one that I retubed, and I tried my hardest to swindle him out of it. Unfortunately, it was his first amp, given to him by his father, so he's keeping it for life. Talk about Fender mojo! Breakup at the perfect volume!

They started out as a 12w amp but by the 80's and the Princeton II they were up to 20 watts. A Princeton Reverb RI with 20 watts would be my preference with a 1x12. Wow, you guys agree on the PRRI. Incredible! Fender should pay attention to this.

Presently, the lowest wattage 6L6 amp from Fender are the 40 Watt Bassman and 45 watt Super Reverbs, right? I guess the Hot Rods start at 40 watts also.

When I first heard about tube amps many years ago I decided to start looking for "an amp with tubes". I ended up not looking far because my best friend had this old "crappy" amp that had tubes. It turned out to be a 1973 SF PR. It was nasty and filled with roaches, the verb didnt work, the trem was weak, and it popped and cracked. Well I gave him a Dunlop wah for it and proceeded to do nothing with it for the next 8 years. I finally put it on eBay and to my shock it brought $500 in the shape it was in!!!! Pretty cool I suppose, but I didn't know any better then. I wish I still had it. That would be a fun project!!

They are amazing amps. I'd buy a reissue if they made one and put a weber in it. I've played 1 reverb BF and one non reverb BF. Both were very very sweet. My dad has been looking for one for YEARS!

Had one when I first started playing in the late 60's. Sold it. Duh! :slap:

If I didn't want to go used, I'd just get a hand-wired Deluxe Reverb (not from Fender these days) and that would make me pretty darn happy.

I already have a 40 year old Deluxe... It's pretty cool... I'd like to add a Princton still to my collection. But who makes a Deluxe Handwired these days? Home made? Or is there a company out there making copies?

Marsh or Mission would have a Deluxe kit I think. If you want to build it.

pencil out? Fender does it with the Blues Junior. Some where along the line they decided that a small EL84 is better than a small 6V6 amp.

But you're probably right. No sense in having two small tube amps.

That's alot of it.

Fender does alot of amps these days when you consider the different lines that they have. And alot of them get received pretty well. The vintage Reissue amps get alot of kudos from players young and old who just aren't going to be able to afford what the vintage market is asking for them. I gave them serious props for putting out the Diaz-modded Vibroverbs.

They can't have everything.....

I think a lot of people (like me) have wondered why Fender doesn't do a tweed Deluxe RI, and the only reason I can think of is that it's a matter of economics.

I think a Princeton Reverb is in a similar price range.

you either do it cheap - pcb, etc, like the Bassman LTD, or do it right - handwired, like the '57 Twin. Either way, there are a few questions: how much would it cost to build, how much could you sell it for, and would people buy it?

There are several companies out there that can sell you a kit. I also can make a Deluxe Reverb, handwired, premium parts, all that good stuff... See my post in the Tradiing Section.

I have a novel idea.....just keep searching the used market, and when you see a black or silver face Princeton, snipe it!!! Why look elsewhere if you want a Princeton....just buy the real deal, have a tech make sure it's healthy and retubed, and own your first real vintage amp! This thread is making me want one, because I remember how cool my friend's blackface Princeton was with new tubes in it.

If you wait for Fender to reissue it, they'll surely screw up and make a second rate version.

speaking of a Princeton Reverb, Fender amp. I just saw one today and its the 1st issue !
It looks like the size of a Peavey classic 30. Sure looks cool, yet to test it out.

+1 to GJer's idea. You can score a SF PR on ebay in the $600 range. Give or take a few $$? Change the speaker,put some JJ 6V6's and the best N.O.S
preamp tubes in your price range. You will now have a kick'in Lil' amp with plenty of balls to be heard in a small club/ginmill. The Phase Inverter could use some help.(But let's not get ahead of our selfs )
