Re: Priorities: Great Amp or Great Guitar?

In the $500 price range you will get more guitar for your money. It's hard to find a $500 tube amp that will have the throat and complexity of tone that you will get from a Bogner or simular type of amp. Also, with the exception of used Fender amps, build and tranny quality starts to become an issue with tube amps in the $500 range. I'd spend the money on an amp first.

As far as guitars go, $500 will get you into a solid used MIA Strat or new Schecter (or simular) guitar that will have a solid neck, hardware and fretwork. It may not be the guitar you've always dreamed of but there are far more $500 player guitars out there than there are $500 killer amps.

Re: Priorities: Great Amp or Great Guitar?

I used to think that a great guitar was priority one. Now I think the exact opposite. If Iwere to go back and do things again i would buy a great amp and a good guitar then make the jump for an über guitar.

I've spent a lot of money on amps that were so so....I regret that.

If you don't have a good amp, you're still gonna sound like crap no matter what you plug into it.
