Re: Pro Co Rat

The Rat is probably the loudest, RUDEST distortion pedal ever! I have one from the late 80's (?) that I used to LOVE, but since then have fallen in love with more gain from the valves, and a bit of overdrive. If you want to hear some KILLER guitar playing with Rats, check out the band Leatherwolf. Their site has some clips from their album 'Street Ready'.

Re: Pro Co Rat

According to Pro Co's web site re: the Rat :

Full control of the sound is provided by distortion amount, filter, and volume controls. Tune in just the right amount of overdrive, get the presence you need without the tinny treble, and balance the volume for the perfect extra "kick" for lead breaks. Distortion, sustain, fuzz, or overdrive: the sound remains unmistakably yours--not fake or gimmicky.

Re: Pro Co Rat

The Rat2 is a very versatile distortion pedal. It can be dialed-in with very little distortion (similar to an overdrive) or cranked with a very fuzzy distortion. Great for '80s metal! I haven't seen anything that I'd replace mine with and I've tried the Boss SD-1, Boss HM-2, DOD 250, DOD FX56 American Metal, and Boss Metal Zone. Maybe the new Deucetone Rat that has two different Rats together in one unit and can be configured seperately or together.

Re: Pro Co Rat

It's something differant from a FUZZ type of distortion pedal...it's not like a Big Muff or the kind of Maestro Fuzz you hear Keith Richards stomp into action on Satisfaction.

The reason I say that is that Jeff Beck leaves his Ratt on all the time, like Vai and Satch do with the Boss DS-1, and when Jeff lowers the volume on his guitar to half or less, the Ratt clean up and allows for a nice cleanish rock rythym tone.

Fuzz Tones don't do that...

For that reason, I think of the Ratt as being more like a Overdrive Pedal...like the DS-1.

But it's fuzzier...I guess it's both a Distortion and an Overdrive.
