Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

Just curious to see what you guys would advise for a 10" replacement speaker for this amp. I want sparkly cleans with punchy bass. Under $75 US would be a plus also.

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

I know you are on a budget but I will tell you a budget speaker will give yo a budget tone.

For $85 you can get a Weber 10F125 which I think would be real nice in a 1x10 combo for a little more you could go with the Alnico version (12A125) it's $90. There are a few guys here that use Blues Jr's wait until they chime in and see what they use for a much better idea...I have only tried a Blues Jr once or twice so Im sort of running blind.

What do you not like about the stock speaker and what is it?

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

I was thinking about this thread when I relized something...don't Blues Jr's have 12 inch speakers?!

I am almost positive I remember somebody (maybe Curly) mention that he had put a C12N Jensen in their Blues Jr...those reissue Jensen speakers don't cost too much...in fact the C12N is around 75-80 bucks new I belive.

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

Blues Juniors have 12" speakers and Pro Juniors have a 10" speaker. I've been looking and some candidates are the Eminence Ramrod, Eminence Ragin Cajun, Weber Alnico Blue Pup, Jensen P10R. There is also a lot of other webers that I'm not sure what the differences are.

If thats the case ignore my second post and just re read my first one...The Weber peakers get rave reviews and I just ordered 2 of them for my new tweed Super. The 10F125 looks like the speaker you need. The P10R reissue is not bad but the Weber 10A100 or 10A100T would be better but would cost a bit more...that said Im not sure that a single P10R, 10A100 or 10A100T will have the bass you are looking for...go for the 10F125

What eminence? has a blue back? I'm not sure about the speaker but I love the sound and I know it's not the original...

That would the Alnico Blues they were making for Fender for Fender's Vibrolux, Bassman, Vibro-King and mid 90's Pro Juniors (tweed). When Jensen .... I mean Recotron (sp.) re-issued the P10R, Fender started using them instead of the Alnico Blues from Eminence. I just sold my Pro Junior and I used one of the P10Rs from my Bassman ( as I have Celestion Vintage 10s and Jensen P10Qs in that). I tried an Eminence Ramrod but that is way too boxy and dark for the Pro Junior. I've never heard the Webers but people seem to like them.

My one complaint is that the bass notes are not punchy at all. In fact they are far from it, when I play anything on the E or A string it sounds flabby and loose. Not sure why, but cardboard comes to mind when playing the bass strings.

According to the Fender website the current speaker is a...

• 1 x 10” 8 Ohm Fender Special Design Eminence speaker

Edit: TGWIF or anyone...regarding the Weber speakers...TGWIF recommends the 10F125 which is a ceramic speaker. It looks like a comparable speaker is the alnico 10A125. How does ceramic differ from alnico?

Edit2: And how would you compare the 10F125 and 10A125 to the ceramic and alnico Blue Pup 10" speakers?

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

The Weber 10F150 in one variant or another would probably work well. If you want the most clean headroom from the PJ, then I would consider spending the extra $$ on a Jensen Neo 10 -- loud, clear, balanced, and punchy tone.

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

The 10A125 and the 10F125 are the same speaker with different magnets, thte ceramic version has a more solid bass than the Alnico but the alnico is still a great speaker. IMO the 10F150 is too much speaker for a small amp but you might like it. Also, I don't know much about the Weber brit speakers but I imagine they are good too...I don't have much of any first hand time with the webers I suggested but I get it from several guys I trust that they are killer speakers...so much in fact that I ordered 2 for my new Mission Amps Super...I should have them by the end of the week and could tell you a bit more.

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

Thanks everyone, and TGWIF please don't forget to fill us in on how those 10F125's sound.

Last question...if this amp is only 3 months old and hasnt been played much, could it be that the speaker still needs to be broken in?

Re: Pro Junior Replacement Speaker (10")

twitch...I didn't get 2 10F125's...I got one 10F125 and one 10A100T but I will let you know what I think. As for the speaker in your amp it might not be broken but it sounds like you are describing might not be fixed by breaking it in...
