Probably faulty pickup ssl6

Greetings dear friends. I just bought a used single coil pickup. A ssl6.
In Seymour Duncan's site says that the pickup is 13,3 Kohms but mine is 13,9 Kohms . Besides that one wire of the windings looks loose but not cut. I'm confused, will it work, or should I give it back.

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

13.3k vs 13.9k isnt anything id worry about. the loose winding, i would be concerned about though. can you send a clear detailed picture?

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

That's insignificant. (The DC resistance, I mean.) Simply measuring the pup at different temperatures will change it's reading more than that. The loose wire you'll just have to judge for yourself. Pics?

(Jeremy beat me to it.) :)

Use the little picture icon when you post and upload it, or use an image hosting service.

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

As long as the wire isn't broken, it should be ok. You could always use pickup tape to put around the coil, if you are afraid of a break. But the fact you are getting a reading means there is no break in there. I bet it sounds great, though.

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

A little bit of sloppy winding, but nothing wrong. If **** happens and the wire breaks, it not a great deal to take some windings off and resolder.

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

i would put a wrap of cloth tape around it to protect it and then not worry about it ever again

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

I was thinking also that you could maybe "paint" it with a little clear nail polish. That would tend to glue it down.

Re: Probably faulty pickup ssl6

I'd stick a little tape around the coil to protect the loose wire. Should be fine after that.
