Problem, need some info.....

Ok guys,

I just got done playing in a band about six months ago and probably will never again. I have a Marshall Dsl50 and a 4x12 , a whole racke of stuff too.

I'm getting ready to tmove into an apartment and the DSL is just WAY TOO LOUD to get it sounding good.

I have a couple ideas , but want your opinions too.

Some off these ideas are way cheaper than others, but I'd like for that to not be reason why you would suggest one or the other.

Oh and Whatever I get, I want to have 2 channels and an FX loop so I can run all my rack gear through it and control it with my ground control.

1 . Get a solid state head such as a Marshall AVT 50

2 Just keep the DSl and re do my setup so that I am using a Distortion pedal of some kind.. DS1, Marshall Guvner plues etc.

3. I saw a MArshall power amp that was 20 watts. Maybe get that and some kind of preamp.

Would a 20 watt power amp be too lud to play an Aprtment with? Ok let's hear what you have to say, oh and keep in mind tha I want to keep the 4x12 and that I like the sound I was getting from the DSl when cranked. I know I can't get that with solid state, but I don't want anything that is gonna sound insane like a Boss Metal Zone pedal. I want a classic rock sound, like Dokken, Van halen etc.

Re: Problem, need some info.....

Did you think about keeping your rig and trying a THD hotplate? My bud has one and it seems to work pretty good.

Re: Problem, need some info.....

Well the thing is, they are pretty expensive and my reaon that I said I wasn't worrried about the price with the other choices is that I would sell the Dsl50 and use that for the cost.

I really don't want to spend over 100.00, if I'm gonna keep the head. I hope that makes sense.

Re: Problem, need some info.....

Depending on the apartments construction and your new neighbors constitution any amp may be too loud. A 20 watt Marshall will still have the potential to rattle the windows easily.

For $100 your options are severly limited. If you never play out and you plan on staying in the apartment for an extended period the Marshall is overkill but I'd never suggest selling your amp. Find a used Pod on Ebay and a pair of headphones. If you can come up with the scratch for a small used Berringer mixer you can jam to CDs in your headphones well into the night without getting evicted.

Robert ,

I'm not limited to 100.00, but I don't want to spend more than that if I don't sell my head.

In other words, whatever I can get for the Head is what I would be spending.

The more I think about this though, I may just be bettr off buying a DS-1 and having it moded and play through my heads clean channel. I reall dont want to sell the head, I had a lot of work done to it, and had it recoverd in red Tolex.

I used to use a Ds-1 years ago and for some unknown reason, I prefered it over my Jubillee distortion, I was only 19 what did I know !

I don't know much about distortion pedals these day though, what does the MArshall Guvnor plus sound like?

Sounds like a good deal. Go for it!
