Problem Wiring JB, No Bare Ground Wire - Triple Shot

Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm wondering if anyone could help me with my problem. I've recently purchased a seymour duncan triple shot mounting ring to install on my esp guitar for use with my duncan jb (bridge pickup). When I went to install the ring I noticed that there is no bare wire coming from the pickup. There is a green, black, red and white wire but no bare (ground) wire. I'm kind of new to wiring up guitar pickups so i'm wondering if it makes any difference whether the bare wire is there or not, or do I perhaps have to solder a wire to the pickup cover to ground it. Note, there was some hum coming from the pickup before I took it out to install the triple shot. So my question is more on how to ground the pickup if there is no bare wire. Sorry if my explanation of the problem is not clear, if you have any questions let me know. And Thank you so much for looking at this and potentially helping me solve my problem.

Re: Problem Wiring JB, No Bare Ground Wire - Triple Shot

all that shield wire does is run from the base plate to the ground
it may have gotten pulled off or is tucked inside the sheathing of the 4 wire conductor

strip the wire back to expose the multicolor conductors and you will find it
EDIT
once you have found it you and solder on a jumper to the end to make it longer if you like

Thanks for the reply, the bare wire was in face broken off and now that i've found it there is no buzzing and everything is working flawlessly. Thanks so much.

Yea i got it all set up, i've only been playing with it for just over an hour but it sounds great. The whole idea of the triple shot is really great, no extra holes in the guitar, and lots of options. It sounds great on my JB, and in conjunction with my phat cat in the neck it sounds godly.

oh, by the way, if I wired up the triple shot to a phase switch, would it work out of phase with the neck. Like in the centre position with both pickups on would I still get that cool peter green esque out of phase sound?

Re: Problem Wiring JB, No Bare Ground Wire - Triple Shot

um
should be able to just swap the black and white wires with a phase switch yes

I got mine wired to a super 5way switch

where its

neck
neck and bridge in series
neck and bridge in parallel ( normal mode )
neck and bridge in series phase reversed
bridge
