problem with JB's in USA jackson KV2

I just recently purchased a Jackson USA model KV2 King V and it comes stock with SD JB's and a 2 volume 1 tone 1 - 3 way switch configuation. I've had a problem since day one with:

1. Hum when volume is rolled off, but goes away when touching metal on the guitar

2. The volume is rolled completely off, I still can hear the guitar while playing through my amp. Very clean tone, almost acoustic sounding

3. No high end when I roll off the volume on either pickup.

I seached the forum for awhile trying to find out what is causing the issues, but some of the threads go into details that are over my head. These problems don't happen with my PRS, Strat or Les Paul. So I know it's not my amp or cables causing the problems. I have great sound when the pots are turned up full, but I'd like to have some high end at low volume for clean solos and riffs. Anyone have a good idea what to do other than return the guitar or send it away for warranty work?

I'd send it off for warranty work. There shouldn't be any problems like that, especially on a guitar you paid that much for (I'm assuming you bought it new). Let them fix their problems. My Jackson has always worked flawlessly.

Sounds like a grounding problem, I'd see if the body ground was soldered well. Or send it off like D!ck said.

I figure that sending it off for warranty is probably the best thing to do but I was really hoping it was something simple to fix or something I could rewire myself. I did notice that while I have the guitar plugged in and my amp on that if I touched a white wire connecting my tone to the switch I got a heavy buzz sound. I wouldn't think that this should happen. I'd prefer to get rid of the tone pot altogether since it's always all the way up. Anyway thanks for the advice

It's always a good thing to dive right in and try to fix it yourself, and I always recommend that when someone wants to swap pickups or such. And if that's what you really want to do, we'll help you sort it out. I just feel that part of the price you paid for that guitar is for their service, so you're entitled to having it fixed. I'd hate for you to spend a long time trying to fix the problem and come away from it not liking Jackson guitars. They usually don't have such problems, and I'm sure they'd be happy to fix it.

It likely is a grounding problem (a fairly simple fix once you find the bad connection), so if you really want to fix it yourself, I'm sure you could do it.

Sounds like either the 3rd lug on the volume pot isn't grounded, or it just needs to be fully re-wired. Check for cold solder joints, loose wires, etc.

I emailed the dealer I bought it from and he found a place locally that handles warranty issues for Jackson and I just took it to them to check out. I should know by tomorrow what the problem is. I hope it gets fixed/set up right because the Jackson plays great and I'd hate to have to send it back. I like the JB's and I've had them in other guitars that sounded great and IMO they really make the Jackson KV2 a versatile guitar. Thanks for the help

I got my Jackson back yesterday and all is just fine. The tech I brought it to said he couldn't hear anything wrong, but after explaining that it didn't happen with any other guitars I own he said I could go with a treble bypass mod and it seems to have solved the problem. At low volume it sounds like a strat using the bridge pickup. Sorta cool for certain styles of music. At full volume the JB's have just a cool crisp sound with plenty of thickness. The repair shop still charged me $10 for the mod, but that's better than the $27 they originally tried to charge me, but i fought them on that. So much for free warranty work.

Until you broke the switch :laugh2:

I'd check over all the wiring for problems and/or send it in for warrenty if it still has it.
