Problem with my SD Blackouts...

Help Anybody? I have recently put in a set of Blackouts in a 2V1T/3way wiring configuration. The pickups sound fine but I get no tonal variation from the Tone pot. I'm not very well versed in active pickups or in what these are supposed to sound like but there should be Some roll off of the highs. I followed the SD schematics on this and it calls for 25k pots for the volume but shows no designation on the tone pot. Currently all 3 pots are 25k. I've checked the pot and it register's a sweep from 1 to 23.4k ohms. I changed the cap with another 43...What am I missing? Here is the diagram I followed.http://www.seymourduncan.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/2BO_3G_2V_1T.jpg

Make sure the capacitor is soldered correctly. Sometimes they pop off just about the time you think they're seated. Can't count the number of times I've done that. Makes me wish for push-on or plug-in connectors on everything.

Welcome!

I agree to check the soldering on the cap. You should be getting pretty drastic tone variation here. If you can, post a pic or 3 of the wiring, and we have lots of great wiring gurus here who might be able to help.

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

Was just reading the product page for these and it says they take a special cap value. You say you replaced the cap that came with them - did you use a .043 or a .43?

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

Both of those values should cut treble - one rather more than the other!

Component failure is possible. Incorrect connection is the most likely explanation.

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

Having spent a bit more time with my new Jackson Monarkh SC, which includes SD Blackouts, I think I found the "problem". The Tone control has a very subtle effect unless the Volume is between 9 and 3. At 10 and 1 or 2, it's barely detectable, but from 3 to 9 on the Volume, the Tone control is very noticeable. Not sure if this is intentional or what, but mine's a factory-wired setup.

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

that seems odd. i dont recall having this with my blackouts, ill have to check when i get home

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

Me neither.

What kind of amplification is being used?

Did you ever solve this issue? We have the EXACT same problem on an esp LTD 1000. The tone has almost no effect on full volume, only on volume between like 3 and 8.

We have no clue what's going on??

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

my blackouts dont have this issue and i used the pots and cap that came with the set so not sure

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

i believe the op's issue was that the tone control itself wasnt doing anything. he only has one post on the forum so we have no idea if it was resolved.

you are saying that when your volume control is on 10 turning the tone knob does nothing? but when you turn the volume down to 7 the tone control works normally?

Yes, just like DrNewcenstein states in this thread

I pmd him directly (not the op, the guy who posted the same issue in here) but didn't hear anything back.

Guess no one else has this issue but he and I.

Re: Problem with my SD Blackouts...

You can try to post some pics, and we can see if there is anything obvious. Usually it is a solder issue, and it can only be a few things if the tone control is the only issue. You *should* hear a huge difference spinning that thing.
