Problems with screws.

Two problems with the screws I got with my Hot for Tele pickups. 1st is that the bridge pickup didn't come with self tapping screws...so it's impossible to screw them through the mount...the neck pick up did however and these went through like butter. 2nd problem is that the neck pickup screws are a little long and this means that when I put the pick gaurd on it sits flush...do I just screw these down into the body as well? Or perhaps sink some holes into the pick up cavity to accomodate the length?

If the three bridge pickup screw holes are not tapped, I think that's a mistake. I've never seen one like that. You could take it to a good hardware store along with the screws and buy a tap to create threads in the copper plate.

Be careful: if you push the bassplate loose you'll have to wax it back on again or else the pickup will howl.

As for the neck pickup, do you have machine screws that attach the pickup to the pickguard like a Strat or wood screws that attach the pickup to the body like a '52 Tele would be?

If you have the Strat size screws, and they are to long, you might have to drill two holes into the wood so the screws don't bottem out.

Re: Problems with screws.

I've found that the some of the Duncan screws are a bit long for Fenders. I just cut a 1/4 inch off the bottom of the screw. If you make a clean cut, it won't interrupt the threads at all. Sand down the bottom after that so it's not so rough.

Cheers guys. Going to go look for some screws at homebase. They'll surely have. Just thought it was funny how they gave me the wrong screws that wouldnt bite through the bottom plate...
