Problems with Seymour Duncan ASB-3ASB

Just a few days ago I installed a set of Seymour Duncan Active Soap Bar pickups along with their 3-band Steve Bailey tone circuit in a six-string fretless bass I just built. The volume control produced a lot of crackles whenever moved, and the overall output was very low (all the other controls worked fine). I rturned the entire setup to the store where it was purchased, and exchanged it for another. The new set has exactly the same problem. Is it possible for me to do something wrong that will mess up only the volume pot, or is this likely a two bad pots in a row (everything is wired exactly as shown in the SD wiring diagrams)?

I would really appreciate any help that can be offered.

Thanks very much.

Sounds like bad volume pots. Don't know how those made it through QC. Call our customer service dept at (805) 964-9610 ext 501 to get a return authorization. It sounds like we could simply replace the harness for you, so you don't have to take the whole thing out again.

I just worked on a bass, where someone installed the Basslines 5 str. Musicman pickup and preamp harness, but it was weak and buzzed. After tracing all the wires, I realized that the owner did one thing wrong. Normally, you use the black as hot, twist the red/white, and silver/green go to ground.

On this setup, the black/red are hot, and the white/silver/green are ground.
It took awhile to figure out, but make sure you're not doing something wrong that's totally simple like that. Doublecheck the Duncan schematic page against your work.

And dont do what I do every other time I wire up pickups, and get the jack wires reversed :)
