Proco Eat 2 v Solo Pedal

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Anyone know about the Solo pedal???

I have always been kinda surfing for a Rat 2 on the cheap and considering it close enough (308 chip, HArmon, blah blah blah...)

But this solo pedal seems like it does everything the RAt 2 does AND a lot more. Plus I know where I can get it cheap!

Re: Proco Eat 2 v Solo Pedal

I actually like it for a very specific reason. The guy tries to get the same tones out of each. (yeah - his switching style could use a little, or a lot, of work!).

My ears said "Hey - he gets the same tones out of each, but the Solo clearly can do way more."

Re: Proco Eat 2 v Solo Pedal

There's links below if you want to read up on some knock off RATs and clones, but the gist of it is that you've got almost the same circuit with the LM308 and the various clipping options pretty much defining the different RAT pedals.
If you can get the Solo for under $75, I say go for it.

If you're really interested in RAT sounds on the cheap, Biyang/GFS has/had models for much less that are either spot on or require a simple resistor swap.
11Gauge, over on TDPRI, is the font of all RAT knowledge.
The Ruetz mod.
The Beavis Audio Research Four Knob Rat.
The BYOC Mouse.

I'm thinking more like 35....could be epic win!

I don't care for either, the filter sweep resonance reminds me of a Metal Zone.

Re: Proco Eat 2 v Solo Pedal

I just finished building a Rat clone from a General Guitar Gadgets Kit, which I added a LM308N chip as the kit came with a OP07 (I got the LM308N from eBay for 2$).

I tested it first on my Fender HRD's clean channel and it sounded alright but had a bit of that cocked wah sound I'm not too fond of. Then I tested it on my JCM900, and WOW! That was the sound I was looking for and I didn't even know it! Now it going on my board permanently! And the most important part, it was a fun project!

Cool - but I won't be running it into a JCM 800/900. But I agree - that IS where the Rat got famous. I'm having trouble not loving the extra flex of the Solo...

Re: Proco Eat 2 v Solo Pedal

Where can I get one of these Eat pedals?
