ProCo RAT. From Santa.

Re: ProCo RAT. From Santa.

When did ProCo stop using LM308's? My Rat is old, but not the original large-box type. It's the first small-box they made, before they started with the Rat 2 and the Turbo Rat and adding LEDs and all that. Anybody know if this one has a 308 in it?

P.S. You can add Steve Stevens to the list of Rat users, back in the Rebel Yell days at least. Also, Adrian Belew was a big Rat user back then. It was he who requested they build the R2DU - two Rats in a 1-space rack unit.

Jeff Beck started using a Rat right after they came out (mass production started in 1979) and contintued to use them pretty steadily up until he started using JCM 2000's. A classic example of Jeff's rat tone is the entire Guitar Shop album...Jeff's rig on that record was a prototype JB signature strat (with 2 point trem, roller nut and locking keys) that only got used on "Where Were You" as well as another Strat or 2 and a Tele or 2 (the Tele's were used mostly for slide) these guitars are loaded with pickups Seymour wound for him and went through a rig that consisted of a BF Twin Reverb and a BF Princeton reverb (cranked to max) pushed wiht a Pro Co Rat that was on almost all the time and controled from Jeff's guitar(s).

The Guitar Shop album is my favorite Beck tone ever, thanks TGWIF! I'm going to have to look into a RAT now...

Re: ProCo RAT. From Santa.

Could anyone point out to me any songs that have the RAT in it?

Pretty much anything from Nuno Bettencourt is a Rat and Bill Lawrence L500-XL combination. Most of his stuff is through a Marshall or similar British amp except for Waiting for the Punchline which was the same combination through a big Fender combo. I think it was a Vibroverb Reissue, but not sure, I'm not real up to date on Fender amps.
