Production floor models or Antiquities ?

Great White Malice
Hey folks!

I should be replacing the Fender '57/62 in my strat soon.

I tried lots of humbuckers in the past, but not a bunch of single-coils.

- SSL-1 ?
- APS ?
- Antiquities Surfer/Custom ?
- Antiquities Texas Hot/Custom ?

The question is : should I kept my money and grab a set of Antiquities later ?
I dont think there'll be much difference between the 57/62 and SSL-1. What about the APS ?

As some of you know, I'm into PinkFloyd at the moment... ;)

Re: Production floor models or Antiquities ?

The alnico 5 SSL-1's are great neck and middle pickups...among the very, very best available, IMO, for a strong vintage Strat tone. I like to use them with a hotter bridge pickup like the JB JR, Fralin Steel Pole 43, etc.

You'd have a hard time beating the SSL-1/SP-43 set in terms of bang for the buck!

But the alnico 5 Antiquity Surfers are just a little more lively and complex than the SSL-1's and worth the extra $$$.

I like the Surfers with the alnico 2 Texas Hots Custom bridge pickup alot. It has a little more mids and alittle less bright glass than the alnico 5 Surfer Custom bridge pickup...but either sounds great.

From what I've heard from John (Stratdeluxer) the Twangbanger is also a great bridge pickup to pair with the SSL-1 or Surfer neck and middle pickups.

Since Antiquity 1s and IIs are opposite polarity, which Antiquities jive with production pickups like the Twangbanger and SSL-1's? Anyone know?

Good question. I'm guessing the Ant I series matches production SDs, whereas the Ant II match production Fenders. Even if that's right, is it only for Strat pickups?
