Programmable preamps/multieffects for bass

Something Cool
Trying to settle for a slimmer bass rig.

For the longest time I simply played bass into a dbx160XT and a tc1140 and then on into fullrange systems (aka PA or whatever is available). I now want some effects, but I am really low on space, so instead of going with a proper bass rig I would highly prefer if some preamp or multieffect would work out. I want it programmable, MIDI (for program switching) a must.

The Zoom B3 is an obvious one. How's that one working for everybody? I generally like the Zoom/Samson stuff.

Ideally I would like a multieffect which has several (at least 4) loops that can be turned on and off via MIDI. I know I can do that with a separate looper but less gear is better here.

Still not sure what the future will look like but I don't plan to get rid of the "proper" guitar rig and I'm not gonna add a vintage SVT and a 8x10" :)

Re: Programmable preamps/multieffects for bass

Hmmm, I dunno. The boss doesn't have a speaker simulator which I'd like in case I use some form of overdrive. And it's a single effects loop in a single place.

In the guitar world I really like my Tonelab, but the thing that is really limiting is that even if I am satisfied with just one insert, the stupid thing doesn't allow me to pick where the insert is. So if I want to run a couple internal effects and one external effect I cannot change the order.

Re: Programmable preamps/multieffects for bass

Boss ME-50b has overdrive. Lacks external loopage.

The Levin/Mastellato/Reuter trio, Stickmen, toured using Boss floor units into small Ampeg combos and a PA that fitted into a self-drive rental van.

If you want to go totally modelled, consider the Roland VB-99. I have its guitar equivalent. The tracking is superb. It even duplicates pick scrapes!!!

This one comes with the X-15, which is the best MIDI pedal ever IMO.

Hey do you happen to know whether this is just a plain MIDI controller I can use for whatever?

Or is it specific to the SGX nightbass?
