Project Burl Paul

I have a bad habit of purchasing figured pieces of wood and starting new projects while I'm in the middle of others. This one makes 4 in the works, so it may not be finished this year, but I couldn't pass up this figuring.

I glued it up to, what else, but a mahogany back. This is rough cut with a band saw.

DDDDDAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM indeed.

That looks phenomenal and the bookmatching is perfect. I say ditch the other projects and put that in the front of the queue!

I've played around with stain colors on a couple of the scrap pieces. Best look I've gotten so far is a reddish orange. It should look killer. Filling the large voids with black epoxy.

I'd be going a subtle yellow-amber. The burl you want to keep prominent, and if you are doing clear laquer over the top this tends to darken the colours a bit as it has a subtle yellow tinge anyhow.
