Pros on Cons of the JB

Re: Pros on Cons of the JB

Cons:need to use a 250K pot to tame the extreme treble (unlike most humbuckers with sound best with a 500k)

is this really a con, considering that seymour himself suggests using a 250k pot?

Re: Pros on Cons of the JB

No issues with the JB in a neck thru Soloist.
... agreed. Perhaps I should have said "hot rod Strat-type guitars" instead... JB works very well in the Kramer Stagemaster - 25.5" scale, neck-through.

Some people would consider it a con, as maybe a 250K would sound better withy the JB but not their neck or mid pickups depending on what they are. Depending on your preferences, it may necessitate a rewiring or control setup change that may be more than some guitar players wanna deal with. It's the whole "change one thing, change everything" effect.

Re: Pros on Cons of the JB

Keep in mind, this is all how it applies to the bridge position of a Strat, which is where I have significant experience with it.

Pros: fat, chunky high gain tone, scorching leads, cuts through the mix, sounds great split or parallel.

Cons: won't clean up much when you turn the guitar volume down, a bit shrill at times.

Re: Pros on Cons of the JB

Oh man... I forgot to mention that. It DOES sound really, really cool when split.
