Looks good. I like the look of the Black Limba. I have no experience with the stuff, what's it like to work? Similarity's to other woods would be?

Re: PRS 22 build.....Limba/Mahogany/Pau Ferro

very cool! where'd you get the templates from? did you make them yourself?

Limba (Korina) is supposed to sound like the combination of honduran mahogany and a thick maple top.
Whether or not black limba differs from white ("regular"), I'm not sure.

Really, really resonant. I picked this piece out of about 5 other boards, and
did the "tap test", and this one rang the most.

And the fact that it's 2" thick ---> should be a tone monster. :naughty:

As for workability, that's the only downside. It splits like a motherf*cker.
You have to be real slow and careful.
It's nothing like poplar or alder where you can route a body in 15 minutes lol

The template is owned by my friend. He has a small shop and I do the work there.
He's made some amazing sh*t over the years....I'll hafta get some pictures.
If I'm Luke, he's my Obi-Wan.

Re: PRS 22 build.....Limba/Mahogany/Pau Ferro

Nice. Great wood selections too. That fretboard is gorgeous.

Re: PRS 22 build.....Limba/Mahogany/Pau Ferro

Thanks guys

Yeah the fretboard is real nice.

I got it and the neck block from LMII -- they do great work!

--Actually, come to think of it, I got my truss rod there too.

Diggin' the 'scar' going down the lower cuttaway to the control route :eyecrazy:

I hope this is not what you are hoping to get from using limba...because that description ain't correct.

Sounds the same...black and white limba come from the same tree, just different sections of the tree.

he's kind of right about sound...but its more like, mahogany is scooped and limba is spiked

Re: PRS 22 build.....Limba/Mahogany/Pau Ferro

Scooped meaning lack of mids, Spiked meaning the mid range is boosted.

limba has 'tonal properties' that are found in both mahogany and in maple which is why to some people it 'sounds like a les paul'

I disagree about limba sounding like mahogany and maple...I've always thought it sounded like a slightly more airy mahogany, like good mahogany with a bit if swamp ash in the mix.

I've never heard a limba guitar that sounded like mahogany + maple to me.

I own one solid limba guitar, body and neck and it sounds like a nice solid mahogany guitar but with a little more air to it, a bit more clarity but I hear nothing in it that reminds me of maple.

wood is one of those things where its never the same twice. remember also, that everyone ears are different.
