I just got a pair of these in a PRS I picked up and am thinkin of selling them. They were bought by the previous owner of the guitar at the PRS Experience (?) and are in perfect shape, brushed aluminum and have the 57/08 engraved on. Looking for a PRS expert to help me out as far as value......

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

Utterly worthless but I'll pay shipping to Great Britain. :D Gimme, gimme.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

So......$500 shipped and paypaled to the UK, is what you're saying? :D

I've installed a set of those about a month ago to one of my customers... I wasn't impressed AT ALL with'em. I was curious 'bout how he got hold of'em, AFAIK those are not sold separately from the guitars. The owner of the guitar GAVE'em to him!

Now I understand why somebody that gave $ 4000.00 for a guitar the need to change the p'ups?

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

what didn't you like about them?

Muddy in the neck, even clean. No sizzle, no string separation, extended chords sounded confused and closed. Anemic and lifeless in the bridge. No bite, no dynamics. Sounded like generic asian p'ups.

It could be that they were stored in the wrong conditions and the magnets lost their properties, I wouldn't know. And as they were GIVEN, he didn't asked too much either.

Anyway, this guy played early Pat Metheny-oriented music, so maybe the tone suits him...

HTH,

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

Paul has sold sets at the experience which is a PRS club thing. They will probably be signed by Paul on the underside. World Guitars in the UK had two sets for sale last year for £800 a go.
However you would need to verify the pickups with PRS. It would be simple enough to engrave a set of McCarty's or 245's and turn them around for a huge mark up.

Hold your horses... the ones I've installed didn't have any particular id sign in'em... no stickers or anything. It was the guy who told me what they were... maybe they weren't those p'ups at all...?

Kids... :banghead:

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

thanks for the info. i wonder how i can verify the pups. i'll have to take them out first i suppose.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

Most PRS pickups since about 05 are engraved on the base with a PRS logo and have a black and gold sticker stating the model. Although 57/08's might vary from the norm. Best thing is to write to PRS.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

these are engraved on the top with 57/08 and are brushed nickel (?). They look and sound pretty amazing but to be honest I think I'm going to try and sell them.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

I have seen an ad. Black/Gold sticker says 1975/2008 Bass or Treble. They have also a white enviromental sticker (ROHS sign, disposal sign and so on). There baseplates seem to be brass. Engraved PRS USA. No handwritten signing though.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

Have them in my Sunburst 22. Best pickups i've ever heard. They used the same machine, wire and magnet material as the originals from 1957. Whatever it is they sound better than anything i've ever used in 25+ years.

Re: PRS 57/08 pickups

At 550 bucks i think I will pass. Your going to have a hard time getting anymore than about 375 for them. Even then no idea why people would pay that much.
