PRS bridge/tailpiece question...

Re: PRS bridge/tailpiece question...

^^ Sounds good. Just keep the original parts (then again IIRC you always do) and remember there´s a good home waiting for her if need be. No need to tie her to a lamppost at a truckstop when you go on vacation :laugh2:

Re: PRS bridge/tailpiece question...

Looks cool Lew, you could always get the bridge stripped and hard anodized.

Re: PRS bridge/tailpiece question...

I have little to offer but I know there are a few tailpieces out there that will fit a PRS. I just don't know what they are.

However, I will say that I love that colour!

I found a used PRS tailpiece yesterday for $20. The seller claims it's an original aluminum PRS with nickel plating and it looks exactly like the one I need. We'll see. The guitar should arrive next week. I also picked up a set of Schaller tuners, made in Germany, that should be exact replacements for the locking tuners on the PRS. Should be able to install them in the original holes and use the original screw holes. I'm just hoping the frets are in decent shape. The seller says they are.

Maybe they weren't always made that way? The tailpiece on this guitar ( a '96 according to the serial number) is clearly plated because the plating is peeling off.
They were nickel plated back in the day. Around the turn of the century, they started offering anodized tailpieces on their top-end and limited edition models. That was when they started the "plating isn't good for tone" line. Personally, I don't think I have the bat ears to tell but I did replace the gold plated stoptail on my Singlecut with an anodized piece, partly because I like the look and partly because the anodized finish is much tougher than gold plating.

Honestly, I don't know what they're doing these days. I kind of stopped following the brand after getting my Singlecut in 2006.

For $800 I don't see how I can lose. I can return it if I don't feel I got my money's worth, and if I keep it and after a while don't like it I can easily resell it and maybe make a couple of bucks. Right now, my only guitar with humbuckers is my ES-335.

It'll be nice having another humbucker guitar and my cream Tom Holmes humbuckers should look and sound great in the PRS.

Besides, all I did to come up with the money for it is sell a bunch of comic books that have no real value to me. :)

Re: PRS bridge/tailpiece question...

$800 is a no brainer for sure!

I know you are mostly a Strat/Tele player but nice sounding humbucker gutars are great too and for me as a player I have to have a one

I hope it turns out to be a keeper for you!
